This box is illustrated with Trout and Fishing Flies. Made in England by Bilston and Battersea Enamels, the hand painted round enamel box is white with a brass trim hinged top and is decorated with colorful illustrations of trout fish on the box’s lid and fishing flies around the circumference.
Inside the lid is “I love any discourse of rivers, and fish and fishing” Izaak Walton 1593-1683, commemorating Walton who wrote The Compleat Angler, one of the three most published books in English literature (alongside the Bible and the Complete Works of Shakespeare).
This particular enamel box is rare and very hard to find. This one has been stored since it was purchased in London and has never been displayed thus it is in “mint” condition”.
Hallmarked on the bottom with the Royal Warrant HALCYON DAYS ENAMELS ENGLAND and BILSTON AND BATTERSEA ENAMELS REVIVAL in an oval laurel wreath.
Box is approx. 2-3/8” in diameter and stands at 1-1-4” high.
